Evening possams!!

October 31st, 2005 | Category: General

Ok….I am marginally tired, given that I have been to London and back (yet again) - this time was different however, because I was able to sup a light libation and catch up a little with Uncle Chris (sends virtual wave in Chris’s general direction), talked about lots and little at pretty much the same time, but was a fascinating chat all the same; will have to do it again soon :)

Anyways - I know I said I wouldn’t have much time to blog today (but you know me…I need my fix!!) I just wanted to log on and announce my new motto to the general populous — – — >

Unitam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant

Striking huh? Okies - I ain’t gonna tell you what it means, or what language it is….first one to comment with the correct answer gets the privildge of being ….well…. abosolutley right!

…Some good news

October 30th, 2005 | Category: General

Yes, you guessed correctly - I have finally attacked the washing up that has been mounting up in my kitchen for a few days (I really need a woman in the house to start bullying me around with housework etc, I would get so much more done then!), however, in the meantime I am taking a one step at a time approach to all my woes, and since I will be in London most of tomorrow I doubt I will have much time to blog, so if I don’t manage to before then — – HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Don’t forget to make a wish at the stroke of midnight. I’m not saying it will come true, but you never know!

sidenote — – > I’ve just noticed how bi-polar my blog is…..maybe it requires some therapy?

Sad and Concerned

October 30th, 2005 | Category: General

Whilst I take a break from doing “stuff” - which I might one day describe in a little more detail than that; I decided to read the news and came across this article - Crash Teenagers after reading this, it struck me. Is this the kind of thing we are coming to expect from our future generations?

No-one can know what true motives lie behind such things, or where the fault may lie. Was education to blame? Was social background/parenting to blame? Was lack of support and counselling services to blame, or was it a combination of all the above.

How many people are there out there, that feel the government and the country isn’t doing enough for the future of our nation? (raises hand) - I work hard and pay my taxes but when I read more story’s like the one above, I begin to question just what on earth is being done with all the taxes I pay?

The Council Tax,
The VAT,
The Fuel TAX,
The Road Fund TAX,
The Income TAX,
National Insurance (and this is all before mortgage and bills for homeowners!!)

When you break it all down, it’s frightening just how close to half of your monthly wages dissappears in tax - now I’m not on a huge salary, but I am not on the minimum wage either - just take the minimum wage with an employment rate of 74% and an average population of 31 million (if you believe the stats) - let’s say the minimum anyone would get is £11,000 per annum which is probably below the minimum, half of that is lost on tax in one form or another. I am assuming most will own or drive a car here, though even those that don’t will be subject to VAT at the very least. Let’s do some math assuming about half the monthly income is lost that’s about £460 per person working (multiplied by 74.8% of population) gives us £1.058 Billion a month which translates into over £12.5 Billion a year - - - WHERE IS IT ALL GOING?

I am sick and tired of seeing this country degenerate even further, despite all that I give out of my earnings for the government to function. If taxes are raised next year that will be the final straw for me. I will be forced to sell my house and start over. Unlike some though, I am unwilling to give up without a fight. I want some real evidence off this UK Government now. Otherwise at least one of their worms will turn (oooer that would be me?)

On a final note - this is not a cop out for me, I am not simply blaming the government and walking away, I recognise and acknowledge that I too have a responsibility here; I too have to shoulder some of the blame for the state of this country and this island; we all have to accept our own fate for what it is, but we are in a country now of our OWN MAKING - what is that phrase? ah yes “Ignorance is bliss”

If only I could just go on ignoring the politics around me, the bills that pile up on my hall floor, the washing up that’s piling up in the kitchen (you get the picture by now I’m sure) - when this happens the world ceases to function properly.

In order to get things working properly again, it has to start with “ME” I will work to make my life more ordered and as a result the world will follow.

An Idealistic, Optimistic view….

I can only hope.

Avian Flu

October 29th, 2005 | Category: General

Everyone seems to be either talking about it, or not talking about it, or ignoring it; or simply just playing on an Xbox these days….(warning EXTREME GENERALISATION)….oops too late. Apparently Avian Flu - (this isn’t a posh semi-latin way of saying bird flight in past tense either) is a real threat!

Read more about this threat here — – — > England Steps up to the challenge of Avian Flu! if you are a nationalist please substitute all reference of UK/Britain with England and you should be fine…

Of course the obove link is a less than accurate humrous view of something that remains a real and tangible threat. If it isn’t Global Warming - It’s mucky bird colds and Snotty beaks?! I haven’t heard much from the Andrex Camp ??

The serious story is here for those of you who think this isn’t a laughing matter — – > Avian Flu Hits England’s Shores

I like to see the lighter side of any subject, as humour often helps the educational process. As long as just as much emphasis is applied to the serious story behind all the jokes.

More to the point of this particular post. What is being done or said about this subject in the blogosphere? Quite a lot it would seem - so much so in fact there appears to be a blog devoted soley to the subject here — – > Avian Flu

So, if you are semi curious perhaps you might want to give it a look?

Hunting for mods!

October 29th, 2005 | Category: General

Okies - my new site is starting to look a little more homely and “Blog” like now, just added the Archive Calender, which was soooo missing….and now I am nearly happy. Gonna play around with a few more scripts before the night is out (including your one Kanenas :P ) - I really like this site now.

For the past few days I have been suffering SYN DoS and Smurf woes everytime I have tried to update this site specifically; so someone out there must really have a grudge. Anyhoo - Did a thourough disinfection on my machine which started last night and finished at some point today, I’m not sure exactly when because I’m not entirely awake right now. In this process however, I identified three seperate Trojans on my comp - two of which were the Keylogger variety.

Suffice it to say, things have now been changed. I have disconnected my Internet, Cleaned, and changed my local LAN range to a different IP range altogether. I have closed down the Bubble Cam indefinitley; as I suspect having a port open for that was part of my mistake. Effectively turning me into an easy target.

Sheesh!? There are more interesting targets out there - why come after me? Is it common place for Bloggers to be hacked and denied service when trying to update their sites? Anyone else have this problem?

Nah….you are all probably far smarter than me. By using a free Blog host (with advertising nine times out of ten - ANNOYANCE EXTREME) that takes a lot of the hassle away from you.

Sigh….well - apart from the trojans, I then found over 200 (yes that’s right I’ve been lazy for a few weeks) varieties of Spyware; the majority harmless marketing stuff but some surprising little sneaks were in the list also.

I have now set up a new “House-Cleaning” routine that will see this sort of occurance dramatically reduced.

Did somebody say duck?

October 28th, 2005 | Category: General

I feel like a ten ton truck has hit me today, just goes to show how unfit I am. I went to the aid of a damsel in distress last night; in order toplay the role of removal man; which soon degenerated to moving boy, then finally gibbering mess. Nah - it didn’t go that bad at all really! TEAMWORK < -- -- That's what can make "anything" happen.

It's a shame so many employers are ignorant of this. Or take it too much for granted. Anyways, for a change I am not going to step on my soap-box. I am going to switch off and put my feet up in front of the telly. Have a good weekend everyone! If anything interesting happens in the meantime I will be sure to let you know.

On a scary note, it's hard to think it's LESS THAN ( < for all you maths geeks ) 50 days to Christmas, and far more importantly my birthday (yippee!) More an that closer to the time though.

Laterz……. :)

Edit - ok! I suck at math, my 50 day reckoning was a couple out I admit….sigh.

It’s payday

October 27th, 2005 | Category: General

….yup!! And Yikes! Already every single penny is spoken for….so much for the comfortable life. Being a single home owner is not all it’s cracked up to be. I guess I will have to sacrifice my social life completely this month. So I can at least have a half decent time at Christmas.

I am now completely depressed.

I either need -

1) A Pay rise
2) A better job
3) A lottery win
4) A Rich Wife

Or

5) Sell the house and start all over again. (My least favourite but one I am forced to consider)

…sigh.
