Which is the right diet?

I am going to try the two week cereal challenge for now, but moving forward should I go for low carbs, low fat? Or perhaps a Macrobiotic diet?
There is just sooooo many different diets out there at the moment and I don’t have a clue, My main diet at the moment consists of staples including rice, pasta, chicken and tuna with some veg and some fruit (though I ought to eat more veg and fruit).
I am also terrible at portion control - being single in my own home, it may surprise you how difficult it is to cook for one most of the time! Due to this, you fall into the “convenience” trap that is offered by the presence of a pletherer of pizza parlours and fast food outlets all on your doorstep.
I just need a little prod and poke in the right direction, except in this online age, it seems noone is willing to share their nutritional wisdom without you having to sign away half your savings on a subscription!!!
This is basic health and lifestyle stuff, and shouldn’t be coming at a price to ANYONE!
