Since it’s entirely my perogative!

…In the past I have always dissed joining a gym, believing it to be a waste of money.  However, this week I have had the opportunity to try one out for a week (most importantly for FREE).  Now that I have seen what they can offer, in terms of customized programs to my needs -I am tempted suffieciently to become a member, especially as in just one week I have seen the results of my labour; so far I have lost near 2Kg in weight!

So, to celebrate today I treated myself to a KFC for lunch, the gravy proved too much for me to resist :P

I haven’t decided specifically which gym to join yet, however, as there is a LOT of competition here where I live, so I will be carrying out a bit of a test to see if this competition will be enough to enstill some salesmanship towards me and I can get a good deal on the membership.

…Failing that I think I will simply subscribe to SKY HD instead…

The death knell of a free nation?

Apparently we could be openly indoctrinating future generations in our schools on “Core British Values” - Read Here, don’t get me wrong I am a patriot; but when you read reports like this one and I quote:

“Government ministers believe citizenship classes, which may in future be required to cover core “British values”, will help reduce extremism and violence among young people.”

This hints dangerously at indoctrination of the young, which is on shakey ethical ground at best.  This is best left to the realm of Religious fad in my opinion.  Admittedly it must be difficult to strike the correct balance in order to educate without indcotrination to a certain degree, but let’s set the ground rules first eh?  Indoctrination in education is inescapable but it is unforgivable to allow either political or religious indoctrination to creep in - this takes away one of the few freedoms all citizens regardless of culture or background should enjoy - “CHOICE” - oooh I know!!  Let’s teach ALL five years olds that by the time they reach voting age although they CAN vote, they ought to only vote for Labour!

When I read stories like this (and I know the media likes to put spin on things so there is a lot of salt with this one) I get this awful feeling the UK will end up like some totalitarian state by the time it’s 2012!!

Are we to creep back to the draconian ways of the Victorian era?  Or is this a new horror altogether worse than that!

Travelling British Rail is a real trial!

September 22nd, 2006 | Category: General

First of all, as quick as mum went in, she is back home again.  Still worried about the possibilities that short term memory loss suggest, but the chest team that examined her say her Oxygen levels are fine and are discounting this as a cause…

In other news, The Rail “LACK OF” Service continues to be the pits.  I had to travel to Basingstoke today for a meeting, and for the first leg of the trip I was standing despite having a reserved seat (I felt bad about kicking an old lady out of my seat) so I let this one ride, I managed to get a seat once we reached Birmingham no biggy.

Anyways, the return trip was just as bad, Got train from Basingstoke to Birmingham fine enough, but the connecting train was delayed due to a broken down service further up the track by over an hour.  I simply got a different train as there is more than one service that stops at Crewe (lucky me) - whilst waiting though; all I seemed to hear from the tannoy was apologies for late or cancelled services - and on a Friday to boot!!!

…Public transport has a seriously long way to go, before it becomes a service once again!

So, for me it’s taken from 16:30hrs until 21:00hrs to get from Basingstoke to Crewe, when I can do the same journey to Crewe from London in less than two hours!

Think next time I have to go, I’ll grab a pool car and drive.  Also I am glad to see Bacon is in the lead on the current Cyber-Poll! :P

The Secret Life of a Manic Depressive…

September 20th, 2006 | Category: General

Saw this program on BBC2 last night; hosted by Stephen Fry which I must admit, I really identified with, not so much in the here and now, but looking back over the last few years!  If you haven’t watched the first episode then make sure you tune in next week as this series continues to open the pandora’s box on a condition that affects more people than you may realise.

Of the symptoms he describes I could see myself nodding yes, and OMG!! YES!! a number of times, though personally “if” I were to be diagnosed with such a thing myself I would expect to be at the milder end of the scale, having never felt the need to explore professional help or medication.

Also - 9 times out of 10, given my job and lifestyle; I ended up labling so many things as simple stress.

I have lots to think about now moving forwards.

Channel 5, this is a new low!

September 18th, 2006 | Category: General

I watched bits of a prog on channel 5 this evening about “Guys and Dolls” and I am not talking the musical here….I mean; collecting dolls I can understand, even pampering them a little with some special accessories maybe…but…Marrying a doll?  Sleeping with an “Anatomically Correct” doll????  Taking photo’s of yourself with a doll, having a relationship with a doll???

Ok ok….so there “are” some pros…Doesn’t cost you a fortune on QVC, doesn’t ever have a headache, doesn’t answer back, and NEVER says no….hmmmm (thinks about it) - Sheesh it’s still SO WRONG!!

After watching this program I now feel somewhat like a normal human being….thanks channel 5!!

…I really ought to create a special category for stuff this wierd!

I’m gonna ache tomorrow :(

Mood : exhausted

Today - I took myself right back to my school days.  No not the bullying (well er being bullied), but the more scientific aspec of it.  You see.  I swapped around my dining room and my lounge as my asthetics were a bit screwed, now small furniture is not a problem for me (on my own); but a big heavy multi-piece unit with glass doors, drinks cabinet and drawers is another matter; I wanted to move it to the opposite wall.

Panic was stage one of the thinking process after I gauged how heavy the top section was (even after emptying and removing the glass doors)…

So, I brought in an old “sacrificial” coffee table to assist me, and employed some good old pivot and fulcrum moves which enabled me to remove the top section of the unit without actually lifting it all, I simply pulled one end of it onto the coffee table and let it bear the BRUNT of the weight.

Anyways - all moved now; so I am going to have a well earned break :)
