So, if you think you have a suffered lifestyle, or that you are hard done by, then perhaps spare a thought for my mum. At present she is pretty much housebound, with carers visiting on a daily basis. On the menu of woes are the following - Arthritis of the Spine, Prolapse Discs in the Spine, Angina, Chronic Obstructive Breathing Disorder; which necessitates an Oxygen Compressor being present at all times at her home, and an Illioscopy limiting what food she can enjoy. All of this is pretty depressing stuff huh!? Despite such adversity she recently passed her 60th Birthday. It’s a shame I couldn’t have been round to take part in whatever celebrations may have taken place (being on the other side of the planet at the time) - what further dampens this story though is she won’t have appreciated any efforts for her big day because to add to her list she now has Cateracts and Glaucoma of her eyes…. which will need surgery to fix.
Whilst this is likley to require a local anaesthetic to deal with, I always fear when surgery and anaesthesia is involved, since the last time she had any major surgery she nearly didn’t leave the hospital and ended up in Intensive Care for a time.
Guess I’m feeling a little helpless at the moment….and filled with even LESS confidence in the UK welfare system.
